About Rawlins Main Street

Rawlins DDA/Main Street

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established October 19, 1991 by city ordinance of the City Council, City of Rawlins. The Rawlins DDA adopted the “Main Street” approach and became a Main Street community in February 2006 as part of the statewide Wyoming Main Street family. Main Street is a national program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that focuses on revitalizing a downtown economic district through the four-point approach: Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring. In 2008, Rawlins DDA/Main Street received the Innovation Award from Wyoming Main Street for excellence, originality and effectiveness in downtown revitalization through historic preservation.

MISSION

The revitalization of Rawlins’ Main Street will empower the community to preserve our history and build our future through design, organization, promotion and economic restructuring.

VISION

From a small watering station for trains to a bustling support community Rawlins continues to grow and serve the local population and travelers alike. The diverse architectural examples of our downtown district are framed by the Old Pen, rare geological uplifts and our historic Train Depot. The Rawlins DDA/Main Street district will again serve as the heart of the community where people come together to enjoy the convenience and friendliness of hometown businesses, local services, specialty and convenience shopping, and unique recreational and cultural activities. The variety of neighborhood homes and businesses will reflect residents’ respect for historical preservation, while addressing the practical needs of the present by investing in our future. Our goal is to maintain the friendly atmosphere, and at the same time, promote a positive spirit. We will foster diversity to include young and old, year round for a lifetime by bringing back –family, friends and fun.
